The book Fundamentals of Genetics ‘ is designed for the B.Sc. students of Semester III ( Botany ) , Core Course Vil : Genetics as per the CBCS syllabus implemented in Odisha . The book covers every topic included in the four Units of the course . There are 16 chapters in the book that explain in detail the Mendelian laws of inheritance , gene interaction , polygenic inheritance , cytoplasmic inheritance , linkage , sex linkage , variation in chromosome number and structure , gene mutation and fine structure , population genetics and evolutionary genetics . The book has been written in simple language in a style I followed for teaching my students .
